Carl Millöcker's operetta tells the story of the social rise of the working-class girl Jeanne Beçu to become the wealthy mistress of Louis XV. Director Jan Philipp Gloger staged a journey through time spanning four centuries for the Volksoper Wien, from the present day to the France of Louis XV. Set designer Christof Hetzer created lavish rococo-style decorations for the second part. Carpenters and painters created a large salon with high partitions, illusion paintings and deep-drawn ornaments, framed in an oversized picture frame.
